Goodnight Mister Tom is coming to Cambridge
Michelle Magorian’s best-selling children’s book Goodnight Mister Tom is being staged at Cambridge Arts Theatre from May 3 to 7.
Set during the dangerous build up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows young William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside, where he forges a remarkable and heart-warming friendship with the elderly recluse, Tom Oakley.
All is perfect until William is suddenly summoned by his mother back to London.
David Troughton plays Tom Oakley, and is best known for playing the role of Tony Archer on BBC Radio 4’s, The Archers.
He has performed numerous times with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. His television work includes Grantchester, Unforgotten, The Hollow Crown and many more.
Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Goodnight Mister Tom won an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family in 2013.
Michelle Magorian’s novel, published in 1981, has won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and was commended for the Carnegie Medal.
