Alan Ayckbourn has written over 70 plays, and was Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough from 1972 – 2009. Over 40 of his plays have been produced in the West End since his first hit Relatively Speaking opened in 1969.
Henceforward… was first produced in Scarborough in 1987, and subsequently at the Vaudevillex Theatre, London in 1988, starring Ian McKellen and Jane Asher, where it won the Evening Standard Best Comedy award.
