Sudbury Cricket Club kicked off their East Anglian Premier League campaign in style on Saturday with a convincing 174 run victory away at newly promoted Woolpit.
Batting first Sudbury put the pressure on the hosts with a commanding total of 236-8 courtesy mainly to an impressive 109 total from Darren Batch and 59 from Rory Darkins.
With the ball Sudbury were just as devastating, bowling out Woolpit for just 62, Jonathan Gallagher and James Poulson taking three wickets apiece to cap off a comfortable afternoon.
Meanwhile, in the football AFC Sudbury’s season continues to grind to a disappointing conclusion as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Soham Town Rangers, while Sudbury RFC came agonisingly close to ending their season in winning fashion, losing narrowly 22-21 to high flying Cantabrigian. Graham Richards’ side will now wait their fate as to if they have successfully avoided the drop, having finished third bottom, with confirmation to follow as to how many sides will be relegated from London Three North East.
