Weekend round-up: AFC Sudbury’s FA Cup run ends at Eastbourne

AFC Sudbury went out of the FA Cup on Saturday, losing 2-1 at National League South Eastbourne Borough 2-1 in the second qualifying round, Sam Bantick scoring in injury time.

In the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division Hadleigh United were beaten 2-1 at home by Saffron Walden Town, Scott Chaplin scoring in the second half to cut the deficit.

Long Melford were 4-0 winners at Swaffham Town, Matt Hayden scoring twice. Jamie Griffiths and Dan Smith were also on target.

In the First Division, a Rene Swann hat-trick saw Cornard United win 3-0 at Needham Market Reserves on Friday night. On Saturday Halstead Town beat Woodbridge Town 2-1, with goals from Nick Miller and Jordan Hutchings, and AFC Sudbury Reserves drew 0-0 at home to Team Bury.

In rugby Sudbury made it two wins from two starts, beating Romford and Gidea Park 20-3 at Whittome Field.
