HALSTEAD and Sudbury cancelled each over out at Star Stile on Saturday, but the visitor’s batting performance saw them earn the bonus points to overtake their opponents in the EAPL table.

After winning the toss, Sudbury batted first and declared at 274-7 after 65.1 overs.

The total included a 139 from 155 balls from Hasantha Fernando and a 61 from Jay Phillips.

But the Sudbury bowling attack was not sharp enough to remove Halstead’s stubborn batsmen, who despite only reaching 185 remained with four wickets in hand by the conclusion of their overs, leading to a general draw.

Matthew Spatcher hit 42 from 42 balls abd Oliver Ekers ended on 41no alongside Mark Johnson on 3no.

Notable bowling figures from Sudbury came from Craig Smith, who 4-39.

The result, with the batting bonus points, saw Sudbury leapfrog Halstead in the table to 7th on 165 points, eight points clear of their rivals and 58 clear of the relegation spot.
