Walton hits hat-trick as Lions see off depleted Phoenix
An inspiring performance by AFC Sudbury Lions Under-10s earned them an impressive 5-0 win at home to a depleted Ipswich Phoenix team in our match of the week.
Both teams agreed to play a six-a-side match due to a sickness bug that had taken its toll on Ipswich overnight.
The deadlock was broken by the impressive Thom Chance, who scored from his central midfield position.
This seemed to settle the young Lions and a second was netted by Kian Walton, following up a long-range shot to score from close range.
AFC goalkeeper Josh Martin was commanding his area and made some important saves to keep the Lions 2-0 ahead at the break.
After the interval, Walton scored his second with a fine assist from Tommy King.
Second-half goalkeeper Nathan Willett had to be at his best to push away a rare effort from Phoenix.
Bayley McLaughlin and Stanley Peasland were marshalling the AFC team and setting up each wave of attacks.
Ronan Wright and Harry Warburton worked tirelessly for the Yellows, setting up Michael Taylor, who was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with a close-range effort.
Tommy King enjoyed a belated birthday gift as he drifted passed the Ipswich defence to score AFC’s fourth goal, before Walton rounded off the scoring by completing his hat-trick.
The Lions are playing at AFC Sudbury first-team’s home ground at the Wardale Williams Stadium this weekend as part of Suffolk Football Association’s Silent Weekend.
After two weekends of kicking their heels, Cornard Dynamos Blue Under-11s returned to action with a hard-earned win at Holland FCk.
The Dynamos were understandably rusty in the early stages, but some quality returned to their play and Ben Iannone’s throughball sent through Lewis Bowen, who netted somewhat fortunately off the home keeper.
Kai McKnight and Alfie Haygreen both rattled the woodwork before Bowen threaded a pass through to Haygreen to make the half-time score 2-0.
Right at the death, Jack Hurrell completed the scoring when he squeezed home from a tight angle after good work by Haygreen.
n Cornard Dynamos Under-6s are searching for players to join them, who are currently in school Year 1.
They train on a Saturday mornings at 11am with FA-qualified coaches and will start playing matches on a Sunday soon.
