Villagers end winless run with victory
THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE
Long Melford 4
Strikers Jamie Griffiths and Scott Yearling helped themselves to braces as Long Melford eased to victory over Gorleston on Saturday afternoon.
It is a result that saw Jules Mumford’s men end a five-game sequence without a victory.
Yearling fired in before the break before Griffiths made it 2-0 shortly after the restart.
The same player then powered in a header to end the game as a contest, before Yearling added further gloss to the scoreline five minutes from time.
Next for seventh-placed Melford is a trip to Saffron Walden Town on Saturday (3pm).
n In the First Division, Halstead Town are not giving up on their promotion hopes yet as they chalked up their third win in a row with a 4-0 triumph over Braintree Town Reserves on Tuesday.
Jake Brown, Ricky Spriggs and Joseph O’Hare were all on target in the first-half, before Ryan Weaver added a fourth for the Humbugs after the break to complete a comfortable victory at Rosemary Lane.
Weaver was also on target in the 2-0 win over AFC Sudbury Reserves on Friday, with substitute Jordan Hutchings scoring the other goal in the home win.
Mark Benterman’s side visit Haverhill Borough on Friday (7.45pm).
n Cornard United (15th) got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 3-1 victory at Dereham Town Reserves.
The Ards are already set to finish with their best points tally for five years, and need seven more points from their last four games to match the 36 points accrued in the 2009-10 season.
