Tight affair as club sides clash

Sudbury were assured of winning in a Men’s County Triples League game at the Quay Lane club as the A team were drawn to play the B team.

On rink five club captain Aaron Philips with Allen Monkman and Barry Wells for the A team, started slowly against Derek Smith, Dave Howard and Barry Eaves.

It took until end 13 (of 18) before they got into their stride, winning every end after that to take the game 22-11.

On rink four it was a convincing win by the A team - Len Baker, Rod Sharp and Brian Smith beating Colin Clarke, Kevin Williamson and Maurice Davison 20-10.

On rink three, for the Bs, Tony Wickenden, John Simmonds and Richard Ashby played solidly, overpowering Bill Bryden, Grant Duff and Graham Smith 23-10.

It was a close call on rink six with Peter Hanscombe, Doug Wallace and Brian Jenkins for the B side taking the last three ends to win 18-16 against Gordon Edgar, Dave Parker and Terry Swift.

It left the match score at 68-62 to the A team.

n The club has an open day on Saturday, June 13 10am-2pm with equipment provided for newcomers to have a go.
