Third game in seven days proves one too many
THURLOW NUNN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Stanway Rovers 4
Long Melford 1
Playing their third game in seven days, courtesy of the league computer, Melford fell behind after 10 minutes when a long throw by Cawley was headed home by Neale.
Adams was harshly penalised for a tackle and Cawley floated the free kick to the far post where Boyland headed home.
Melford countered, and Heath saved from Griffiths before The Villagers pulled one back.
Adams powered his way through the defence to head home Clarke’s perfectly floated free kick.
However, Melford conceded again when Shaw was allowed time and space near the penalty spot to beat Mansfield.
Clowesely was allowed to stay on the pitch despite two offences under the nose of the official in the space of five minutes. Rovers substituted him at the interval.
Melford were looking for a solid start in the second half, but they conceded again when Newson was allowed far too much space in the box to net a fourth.
Melford huffed and puffed their way through the rest of the half, bringing on three substitutes, but there was no way back.
Long Melford: Mansfield, Dalziel, R Waugh, Clark (Chisholm), Adams, A Waugh, Rowe, Swain, Yearling (Drew), Griffiths, Clarke (Smith).
