Sudbury cyclists are club record breakers

Cycle Club Sudbury trio Jody Downs, Rob Davies and James Rush broke the club’s 25-mile team record at the weekend.

Davies was first home around the course in Newmarket in 53 minutes and 57 seconds, with team-mate Downs setting a personal best of 53.07.

Rush was next through in 53.57, to give a combined time of 2.41.02, which beat the previous club record (2.42.49) by more than a minute.

Elsewhere, Sudbury had an emphatic victory over Colchester Rovers in the Lavenham 10-mile interclub time trial.

Downs was the fastest with a personal best of 22 minutes and 34 seconds, with Rush also setting a new best time in 22.53.

Matt Shotbolt (23.23), Dave Crisp (23.33) and John Bradbury (24.07) also posted fast times as Sudbury filled the top five scoring positions.

Jim Reed (24.07), Roy Cuppelditch (24.12) and Nick Webber (24.15) were the fastest riders for Colchester, who were beaten 240-215 by Sudbury.
