AFC Sudbury Ladies progressed in the Suffolk Cup after a 3-1 victory over Brandon Town.

Sudbury were on top from the start at the Wardale Williams stadium.

Brilliant link-up play down the right between Sophie Pink and Sasha Diston finished with a superb cross into Charley Roach, but as she chested the ball down the chance went begging.

Pink then saw a strike held by the keeper as the pressure mounted.

However, Brandon caught them on the break and took the lead via the aid of a deflection after a quarter of an hour.

But, if anything, the goal gave Sudbury the shake up they needed.

Sudbury pulled level in the 28th minute as Pink and Roach combined again before the latter picked out Sophie Jeffery, who calmly headed through the keeper’s hands.

More strong play from Sudbury saw another cross from Pink find Sasha Diston.

She teed up Marie Seabrook, but her effort sailed agonisingly off target.

In the first minute of the second half, Sudbury created their first chance, but Jeffery put the ball over the bar.

Yet another chance for Sudbury came from a throw-in from Holly Harrison. Seabrook slipped in to Jeffery, who could only manage a weak shot.

Sudbury took the lead from a deep free kick.

A well-weighted ball deep into the Brandon penalty area from Seabrook saw Diston battling against a defender to win the ball and lay it off to Kayleigh Steed, who placed her shot perfectly through several players to see it hit the back of the net with 57 minutes gone.

Looking to draw level, Brandon broke through the Sudbury defence with a ball over the top. However, keeper Helena Brodie came to collect but was caught in the air and awarded a free kick, despite Brandon finding the net.

Sudbury then saw two efforts ruled out for offside.

However, an 87th-minute goal made sure of victory.

Stacey Teager had the ball in the back of the net following short, sharp play from Holly Harrison and Jeffery which pulled out the defenders and created space for Teager to calmly finish.

In stoppage time a cross from Skye Ramsey found Kiera Bates.

She unselfishly passed to Diston, only to see her effort blazed over.

Sudbury: Helena Brodie, Holly Harrison, Marie Seabrook, Rebecca Thrower, Sophie Pink, Emma Squirrel, Sasha Diston, Skye Ramsey, Sophie Jeffery, Charley Roach, Kayleigh Steed; Subs: Phoebe Guiver, Kiera Bates, Stacey Teager, Charlotte Golding (unused).
