Sudbury claim silver after thrilling final

Sudbury Roller Hockey Club’s head coach Pam Jones declared her pride after her under-11s took the runners-up medals following a thrilling National Cup final in the North East.

At Middlesborough’s new Sports Village on Sunday, Sudbury had taken the lead against Herne Bay through Murray Braybrook’s strike, only to go into half-time trailing 3-1.

A spirited second-half display, with two goals from Ronan Wright, saw them eventually lose 4-3.

“Seeing this was the first ever Sudbury entry into the yearly national competition, they did so well,” she said. “We as a club are so proud.”

This weekend sees the club’s under-13s in national finals action.
