A trio of Thomas Gainsborough School pupils will next month be bidding to reach the national final of the British Schools Karting Championships.

Nico Palmer, Ben Maxim and Ben Tatum teamed up last month to represent the school in their local final at Anglia Indoor Karting, in Ipswich.

Palmer and Maxim won both of their races, while Tatum finished third in his two races, having started from the back of the grid.

The TGS A team finished in top spot to secure a place in the regional final, while the TGS B team, consisting of Josh Martin, Charlie Harman and Freddie McCracken, came third overall and delivered their personal best lap times on the night.

Palmer, Maxim and Tatum will be competing at Daytona in Milton Keynes on April 26 in the regional final.

Head of chemistry at Thomas Gainsborough School, Andrew Cameron, helps out with the running of the karting teams in the competition and said: “Every year we enter two teams into the British Schools Karting Championships and we’ve had remarkable success in the past. The group we entered into it three or four years ago got to the final and it created a bit of a legacy at the school and has got pupils interested.”
