RYMAN LEAGUE: More Bury Town players re-sign while Team Bury announce new manager
Bury Town manager Ben Chenery’s preparations for the 2016/17 campaign are taking shape after the club announced a further eight players from last season’s squad have re-signed.
Young talents Tevan Allen and Noel Aitkens are among the names who have committed themselves to next season to take the squad up to 15 confirmed players.
Goalkeeper Neil O’Sullivan and defensive duo Justin Miller and Darcy De’Ath will also be staying at Ram Meadow along with midfielder Matt Collins and forwards Sam Reed and Remi Garrett.
They follow confirmation from Chenery that supporters and manager’s player-of-the-year Ollie Hughes has agreed a new deal as well as last season’s captain Phil Weavers, striker Josh Mayhew and midfielders Bradley Barber and John Kennedy.
Goalkeeper Dan Heath (from Newmarket Town) is the only confirmed signing added so far with Connor Hall (Biggleswade Town) and Will Gardner (Soham Town Rangers) having both left the Blues.
Meanwhile, Bury’s Thurlow Nunn League feeder side, Team Bury, have a new manager at the helm for 2016/17 with former Ipswich Town, Norwich City and Peterborough United coach Guy Hayes taking over from Richard Archer.
Team Bury secretary Daniel Connor said: “We had a difficult season last year and are looking forward to having Guy on board. He has fresh, new, innovative ideas and we are delighted that he has joined our coaching team and will work in partnership with West Suffolk College Sports Academy.
“The link between Team Bury and West Suffolk College Football Academy has experienced 17 years of continued player development.
“It is a very successful football partnership and enables young footballers the opportunity of playing at a good level.”
Bury’s chief executive, Michelle Banfield-Curran, said: “Guy will be joined by Peter Meadowcroft who has over 15 years experience of coaching youth football in Essex and Suffolk and moved into adult coaching three years ago. The two have previously worked together.”
New Manager Hayes said: “I look forward to developing all the players at Team Bury in what is a strong competitive league.
“Team Bury and West Suffolk College are a highly regarded 16-19 years olds football scheme that has produced players of a high calibre in non-League football. Peter and I aim to continue their great work.”
Richard Wilkins, from West Suffolk College, said: “Guy has the right attributes we were looking for in the appointment.
“We are positive that both Guy and Peter will be a great partnership and their enthusiasm and knowledge will be vital in our young player’s progression.”
