Ryman League: AFC Sudbury striker Callander re-signs
Luke Callander has signed a new one year deal with Ryman League Division One North champions AFC Sudbury.
The former Chelmsford City striker netted 24 goals last season to help the Yellows clinch promotion to the Ryman League Premier Division for the first time in their history.
Callander’s football career began as a youngster at Ipswich Town, where he spent seven years at the Sky Bet Championship club before joining Stanway Rovers in 2006.
Spells at Heybridge Swifts, Chelmsford and Witham Town followed before he signed for Sudbury at the back end of the 2014-15 season.
After impressing the AFC faithful by scoring seven goals in 10 appearances, Callander stayed at the Yellows last season where his 24-goal haul was only bettered by strike partner Craig Parker, who found the net 28 times in Sudbury’s title-winning campaign.
Callander is the ninth AFC player to have re-signed for the 2016-17 season, with Marcus Garnham, Sam Clarke, Ben Robinson, Jack Wilkinson, James Baker, Jordan Blackwell, Ryan Henshaw and Jack Newman having also committed themselves to the club for their first campaign in the Ryman League’s top flight.
Lowestoft Town midfielder Rob Eagle and Concord Rangers striker Sam Bantick joined the Premier Division new boys last week, while young duo Ross Bailey and George Clarke have both left the club.
