Novices take the stage

Sudbury Bowls Club staged the Novice Cup – a singles game with four bowls each - open to new bowlers to the sport this season.

Organised by club coach Len Baker and assisted by fellow coach Tony Johnson it was a busy event with everyone playing three games in a round robin group draw.

Making it into the final were Paul Hindersley and Susan Monkman. Both had a clear run by winning all their respective group games.

The final was played over seven ends, and Monkman led 5-2 after the fifth. But in the sixth Hindersley knocked his opponent’s two holding bowls off the jack, taki ng three shots to level. Fittingly the final end needed a measure to decide, Hindersley taking the shot to win 6-5.
