Sudbury Cycling Club rider Jonathan Weatherley achieved his best-ever result in an open time trial to claim second place at the Cambridge CC 25-mile open event near Newmarket.
In a race that had been reduced to just half its distance following bad flooding to the course, Weatherley finished just 27 seconds behind eventual winner Anthony Stapleton, while Sudbury team mate Barry Lee finished in 27th place.
Weatherley also returned to action along with Jody Downs to compete in the Chronos RT Open 10mile Time Trial, near Cambridge.
The fast starting Downs established a substantial advantage over Weatherley at the half way mark. However, Weatherley paced his effort well and was able to overcome the deficit on the return leg to finish strongly in 11th place, just seven seconds ahead of the improving Downs in 12th.
The event was won by 50 time National Champion, Michael Hutchinson who recently returned from competing in the time trial at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The club 10 was also held on the Acton Circuit and was won by Simon Daw in 19 minutes 40 seconds from Andy Kennedy.
The points standing for the most improved rider sees David Miller (788), S Bush (668) and Tom Moore (604) with just two rides to go.
The penultimate ride is on the Lavenham 10 course starting tonight (6.45pm).
