UP-AND-COMING teen skier Natasha Wright raced to a top 10 finish in the annual Inter Schools Challenge, against a strong field that included members of the GB squad.

Representing Great Cornard Upper School, the 14-year-old was one of 300 young skiers taking part in the alpine race in Les Houches in the Chamonix Valley.

Wright, who lives in Lindsey Tye, near Hadleigh, and is a member of the Suffolk Vikings Team in Ipswich, increased her training, both skiing and fitness, in readiness for the races which included the slalom and giant slalom.

She had not only been training at the Ipswich slope but also at the indoor ski slope at Milton Keynes.

As a result of the extra training, Wright performed extremely well in her age category, finishing ninth in the slalom and 15th in the giant slalom.

The results were a great achievement as most of those finishing in front of her spend their winter out in the Alps training and many are members of the GB squad.

She is now training for the first race of the ERSA regional summer league, the Ski Schools Championships being held in Welwyn Garden City on Sunday, April 22, where again she will be representing the school, with a team she has put together.
