Three Sudbury swimmers competed in the British Masters and Seniors Age Group Championships in Manchester and returned with a medal haul.
Stuart McLellan had six events over the weekend and achieved some excellent times. Competing in the 800m, 400m, 200m and 100m freestyle as well as the 200m and 400m IM’s McLellan impressed to clinch three gold medals, one silver and one bronze as well as posting four season best times.
Terry Mansi had an exceptional meet having not trained continuously since April and clinched two silvers and two bronzes from competing in the 800m, 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m freestyle events, while Sharon McLellan competed in the 800m, 400m, 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke and achieved a season’s best time in 200m backstroke.
Meanwhile, a host of Sudbury swimmers are now into the open water season starting with the Great North swim in Lake Windermere where Gordon Coutts competed in the two mile event and swam 48 minutes and 37 seconds.
Eight swimmers took part in various distances at the club’s Great East Swim at Alton Water.
Starting the day was the two mile event with Coutts (49:48), Shaun Boldock (58:31) and Sharon McLellan (58:39) all impressing, while the one mile event saw Graham King (29:03) and Sue Moye (31:25) give promising displays.
In the 800m Harry Moye swam an excellent time of 10:43 while Stuart McLellan swimming the longer distance of 5km, finished in 1:22:17.
Zara Frost was also competing in her very first open water in conjunction with Suffolk Schools in the 250m and had a solid swim.
