Sudbury Boxing Club’s open show treated a bumper crowd to 17 fights and a skills contest as a host of up and coming boxers shined.

Joe Marsh opened the event, held at Sudbury Rugby Club on Sunday, in a skills contest against Richard Smith.

Marsh used his fast feet and height advantage to good use, as he upped the pace in the third round to outgun the Fendland Sparta boxer.

Next up was the battle of the debutants between Jake Carrington and Coby Wright, with the former claiming a deserved unanimous decision victory.

Jack Wiffen was also in the winner’s enclosure, as the 13-year-old took a decision win against Fendland Sparta’s Liam Finley.

Wiffen began on the frontfoot to take centre and outworked his opponent in the first round, before Finley fought back with some clean hooks at the end of the second round.

The final round saw Wiffen keep up the pressure which led to a unanimous decision win for the Sudbury youngster.

George Dennis lost out in a split decision to Gator’s Mickey London in the next fight.

The 15-year-old worked some nice combinations to claim the first round, with London responding with sharp counter punches to level the tie.

And a close final round went to the Gator boxer, who picked up the win on a split decision.

The fight of the night went to Mitchell Davey and Milo Clay who put on an exceptional bought to send the crowd home happy.

Attleborough’s Clay was a late replacement for Sudbury’s Jasper Boydell, and after a slow start came alive in the second and third rounds to take a unanimous decision victory.

Davey had begun the fight well, with the Welwyn Garden City boxer landing some quality shots to take the first round.

However the recently-crowned Eastern Counties Youth Under-16s Champion fought back to win the last two rounds, and with it another victory.
