Sudbury Ormiston Academy student Lewis Wadley raced to the Ellough Park Junior TKM championship in his first season of karting.

Junior TKM is a 100cc two-stroke-powered kart capable of speeds up to 70mph, similar to 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button’s early days in karting.

Competing against 11 other junior drivers, Wadley excelled in the wet weather conditions early and late on in the season.

He competed in a total of 13 races, of which his best 11 counted, and had nine podium places — five wins and four second-place finishes.

Having already won the title at the November meeting, he finished with a tremendous second place in the final round this month after fighting his way through from the back of the grid.

Wadley has been racing with fellow Sudbury Ormiston Academy pupil Jake Gregory, who finished the season in a very creditable second place in the Ellough Junior TKM championship.
