Halstead Road Runners’ second claim member Jimmy Smith came home in an outstanding time of two hours and 38 minutes and 45 seconds in Sunday’s Manchester Marathon.

The impressive splits of just six minute miles put him just over a minute a mile slower than the likes of Mo Farah and Haile Gebrselassie.

In the Bungay Half Marathon on the same day Jon Buist ran a personal best (pb) of 1.34.11, while Andy Owens finished only a few minutes behind in a time of 1.36.42.

Saturday’s popular Park Run series saw four Halsted members take on the Notley Course: Mick Purkiss 28mins 58secs, Charlotte May 29.50, Sheila Purkiss 33.16, Diane Ashdown 37.18.

Dressed as a nuclear ninja, Jim Leaney finished the 5km Neclear 100 race on Sunday in 25th place overall in a time of 21.24.

Halstead members showed their diversity with five members taking on the Marie Curie Swimathon at Halstead Leisure Centre.

Wendy Cater, Del Harrington, John Markham, Paul Frindle and Don English each completed 1,000 metres, with an overall team time 1hr 45mins 48secs.
