Sudbury rugby coach Graham Richards is close to being able to include an exciting backs player thought to have a big future in the game for their trip to Beccles on Saturday (2.15pm).
The paperwork to allow the teenager to appear on Saturday was expected to be completed today, with Richards confident his arrival could help push the team over the line to survival, believing they now only need two more wins.
“Playing senior rugby at any level is a big step up and if he can cope with the physicality as well as Austin Beckett, he has the potential to make a big difference,” he said.
England Under-17 player Austin Beckett has shone in his three appearances this season, scoring two tries at Upminster, with St Joseph’s College school games restricting his appearances.
But the 17-year-old is available for the trip to Beccles, while his older brother Fraser Beckett (university), veteran Mark Bolton (family commitments) and Justin Burton miss out. Ethan Wright (university) returns.
Sudbury are six points above the three relegation places after a 29-5 home win over Canvey Island.
