North Lopham-based Kumo Judo Club returned to the competitive circuit with a busy weekend and varied results.
London Olympian Colin Oates returned from a six-month lay-off with a shoulder injury at the Miami Grand Prix, where he was eliminated in a close second round encounter ahead of travelling to Panama for a World Cup tournament.
Brother David Oates was beaten on penalties in the opening round of the European Veteren Championships in Paris.
The club, which also runs classes in Diss, Debenham and Thetford, faired better at the East Anglian Fours held at Breckland Leisure Centre.
Some 14 Kumo players took seven gold (Anna Moore, Gemma Moore, James Bridges, Thomas Storey, Luke Miller, Sonni Kovacs and Anthony Arvrzl) three silver (Alex Storey, Jake Twells and Steve Wardle) and four bronze medals (Byron Reeve Alfie Cutts and Wilf Mason).
This weekend the club will run an inter-club novices event at Lopham Village Hall. Any local schools interested in Kumo running a judo taster session should call 01379 688258.
