Newton Ladies make a flying start

Newton Green Golf Club’s ladies have made a flying start in the Weston Trophy, Suffolk’s main inter-club team competition for those playing singles off scratch.

Looking to gain promotion to the top tier, Newton Green recorded two victories in their opening matches.

The first success came against Felixstowe at home when Jenny Leech won a second play-off hole to record a nail-biting 3-2 victory.

Other members of the team were Di Cunningham, Claire Aldous, Janet Sparkes and Emily Penfold.

In the second match at Southwold, Newton pulled off a 5-0 victory, being boosted by the availability of England schools training squad players Alice Barlow and Eloise Aldous.

Aldous will be among those representing Suffolk Schools Golf in the inter-county competiton at Buckingham having won the county schools under-16 girls’ title last year.

As county champion, she will also represent Suffolk at the national England Schools’ championships in Lancashire during July.
