London 2012: Chris Walker-Hebborn fails to make 100m backstroke semi-finals

CHRIS Walker-Hebborn missed out on the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke at the London 2012 Olympic Games, despite finishing third in his heat.

Bury St Edmunds’ Walker-Hebborn recorded a time of 54.78seconds to finish behind Belarus’ Pavel Sankovich and Italy’s Mirco di Tora.

He will race in his specialist event — the 200m backstroke — on Wednesday when he will be gunning for a place in the final.

Team GB medal hope Liam Tancock made the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke after finishing second in the penultimate heat to world champion Camille Lacourt.
