Newton Green Ladies recently held their Open on a glorious late summer’s day, playing host to 56 ladies from Suffolk and Essex.
The format was a Cha Cha Cha Stableford with Sue Patrick, Nicky Withycombe, Rose Cole and Gina McMillan, of Playgolf Colchester, winning with 109 points.
Sadie Tricker, Bev Allen, Viv Kemp and Carol Nicholson, of Bury St Edmunds Golf Club, came second with 102 points.
In third place was Braintree Golf Club’s team, consisting of Sue Snell, Shirley Jiggins, Valda Curtis and Carole Nash.
The best score on the front nine holes was won by Richmond Park Golf Club’s Rosie Sunerby, Julie Ellis, Mabel Curtis and Mary Wakeford with 49 points.
The back nine best score came from Gosfield Golf Club’s Pat Holmes, Jenny Heather, Eleanor McGregor and Linda Szperko with 52pts.
Nearest the pin on the sixth hole was won by Judith Peeling (Playgolf Colchester) and on the 13th hole by Linda Szperko (Gosfield).
n A Sudbury golfer has received a limited edition BOSS watch after scoring a hole-in-one during a recent competition at Newton Green Golf Club.
Nicholas Young, 73, scored his ace on the 172-yard, par-three 11th and the 26-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1 Club and a specially-commissioned, commemorative timepiece.
The luxury German brand has pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition between April 15 and October 31 this year.
The scheme is open to any golfer whose club uses HowDidiDo — a free-to-use, web-based social network for golfers with — and anybody playing in official club competitions will be eligible.
Currently, more than 1,800 clubs use the website.
