Initiative to get women playing golf

FREE lessons for wannabe golfers are being held at Newton Green Golf Club.

The new Girls in Golf initiative follows the success of last year’s event, which saw a large number of women try out the sport.

Club professional Tim Cooper has been offered central funding from the sport’s governing bodies to allow him to again offer free tuition to juniors and adults.

Many of those who took up the option last year are about to return to the club to take up a course for improvers.

The new batch of beginner level classes start in March.

The six-week courses run on Saturday and Tuesday mornings, and include all necessary equipment, and refreshments.

Free group beginner classes for boys and girls from five to 16 years also start on the first Saturday in March, with free improvers’ classes shortly to be announced.
