Hockey leads the way as championship race hots up


Chris Hockey leads the way in the Eastern Centre Enduro Championships ahead of the fourth and penultimate round on Sunday.

Staged by the Sudbury Motorcycle Club, nine-times champion Hockey heads to Home Farm in Little Hadham, Hertfordshire on 45 points to currently sit ahead of current champion Jamie Roper by three points with Jason Morland third on 39 points and Ricky Roper on 35 points.

In the expert class Lewis Bond, an up-and-coming rider, is on 51 points and has a 17-point lead over Glenn Walsh, who is a point ahead of Darren Nicolaou.

Four-times champion Mark Chapman is now riding in the expert veterans class and leads the contest on 47 points from Gene Womack (43 points) and Graham Mays (37 points).

In the clubman class, Dean Goggins (50 points) has increased his lead over Ross Taylor (42 points) while William Hughes and Ben Alexander share third place on 35 points.

Mark Green (50 points) leads Jason Fowler (42 points) in the clubman veteran class while several points adrift are Dean Curry (28 points), andDuncan Griffin (26 points), with David Meehan and Jeff Turner in joint fifth place on 24 points.

Andy Mason (54 points) has a 19-point lead from Steve Finch in the clubman super veteran class with Clive Stevens and Gary Drage jointly third on 28 points.

Elsewhere, it is a very close race for the Team Dave Roper (TDR) Contest, set up by the Roper family and Sudbury Motorcycle Club for club members between the ages of 15 and 21, with newcomer Alex Rampton (258 points) leading Jack Nicolaou (251 points) and Ben Roper (201 points).
