Teenager golfing talent Alice Barlow has confirmed she will play on the ladies’ amateur circuit next year after competing in her last junior tournament.
The Newton Green Golf Club member ended her junior career in style after impressing in a prestigious tournament in Portugal.
The Thomas Gainsborough School student finished a highly-respectable seventh in the Telegraph BMW Junior Championships — after being one of only nine girls, including club-mate Lily May Humphreys (second) to qualify.
Barlow qualified for the event, held at the Quinta do Lago North Course, when she carded a four-under-par round earlier in the year at the Under-18s Girls Championships held at the Nottinghamshire Golf Club.
The national junior champion of champions winner and county champion’s achievement in qualification was made even more impressive after more than 40,000 juniors entered at club level.
After the fitting way to bow out of junior golf at such a spectacular venue, she said: “The week was a fantastic experience with the sponsors and organisers filling every available minute with other activities including Sky Sports media training which I loved.
“Overall it was an amazing week with a great bunch of people. The course was set up to pro level and the greens were lightning fast. This is definitely a week I will remember for the rest of my life.”
She returned scores of 77, 82 and 79 on the tricky and long North Course to finish in seventh among a field of elite England golfers and now plans to play on the ladies’ amateur circuit in Britain.
