Three Cycle Club Sudbury riders took part in a 25-mile time trial near Newmarket organised by the Veterans Time Trial Association.
Conditions were far from ideal as strong winds of over 20mph made bike handling particularly difficult on the course.
It led to very varying speeds with riders averaging 25mph and seeing maximum speeds of 42mph.
On one five-mile section of the course, riders with deep section front wheels and a disc on the back had to lean into the wind to prevent being shoved across the road.
Despite the adverse conditions, the Sudbury riders performed well.
Jonathan Weatherley, taking part in his first Open event of the year, finished third overall in a time of 58minutes 33seconds. He was also the first placed Veteran (rider over 40-44 years of age) and first in his age group.
Robert Davies finished sixth overall in a time of 59-41, also winning his age group (45-49).
James Rush was 16th overall in a time of 1hrr 2min 8sec seconds.
Combined the three were the fastest team, but the prize was for veterans only, over 40s, so Rush the youngster meant they were not eligible.
