Newton Green’s Ellie Aldous is to be junior captain of Suffolk Girls for 2015.
The 16-year-old still has two seasons of junior golf to represent the county, and has already become a member of the senior team squad, including making her debut in the regional county golf week.
One of the longer hitters in Suffolk ladies’ golf, she and fellow Newton junior Alice Barlow became the youngster ever winners of the county’s prestigious Haskell Trophy in 2013.
Ellie is at West Suffolk College where she is studying for a BTech in Sports Excellence Sciences.
She has played at Newton since the age of 10, and in 2008 made national headlines when she beat off a 100-strong field of adult golfers to win the club’s prestigious Jonathan Lambert Centenary Silver Salver.
Ellie then played off a handicap of 42, although qualification for the event has now been cut to 36. During the year her handicap was five, but at present stands at six.
