NATIONAL COLTS CUP FIRST ROUND

Hadleigh RFC Colts 27 Barnet Elizabethans 15

Hadleigh’s debut in the competition was successful, with a fine victory at Layham Road.

They opened the scoring in the eighth minute, Sam Hindley going over, only for Barnet to level four minutes later.

Joe Colcomb restored the lead, Cal Dawson converting. But a penalty made it 12-8 at half-time.

Barnet came out strongly at the start of the second half, but Hadleigh resisted and Charlie Ewen broke out, setting up Arthur Romer-Lee to race away to score, Dawson converting.

Barnet came back again, and despite some sterling work in defence, broke through to close the gap to 19-15.

Dawson converted a penalty to stretch Hadleigh’s lead, and they clinched victory when Rob Halls set up Max Berridge to score in the corner.
