EARLS Colne B have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Sudbury and District Snooker League following their fourth consecutive 5-0 win.
Their latest success came at Sudbury Snooker Club A although it was not all plain sailing for the leaders as three of the five frames were won on the pink or black.
Neighbours and closest challengers Earls Colne A dropped two points at home to basement club Long Melford Royal British Legion B. After cruising into a 2-0 lead courtesy of wins by Kevin Carling and Mark Harris, it looked as though Colne were in for a comfortable win but they were rocked back as wins by Alan Seamark and Ron Venables drew the Legion level before James Monk saw a relieved home side through to victory.
Lavenham RBL B moved into third spot after a 5–0 win at Sible Hedingham. This match was notable for an eight minute opening frame in which the Legion’s Jon Wright whitewashed his opponent Richard Syder 86-0 nil knocking in breaks of 43 and 39. His opponent had just three shots in the entire frame.
Lavenham RBL A stay fourth after a hard-fought 3-2 win over Long Melford Working Men’s Club A while in the week’s other match Long Melford Working Men’s C beat Sudbury Snooker Club B by four frames to one.
