CLARE Social Club are the new champions of the Friday Charity League.
They won the league by a single point from Melford Cricket Club, who fought right to the very last game.
The Cricket Club needed an 8-3 win to snatch the title. They were 6-3 up at home to the Institute Club, but two late victories by K Marsh and Neil Garnham, for the Institute, made it 6-5 and the league title went to Clare.
Northcroft finish third despite going down 6-5 at Cavendish Five Bells, who have done really well in their second season.
Cornard Five Bells had a 7-4 victory at the Waggon and Horses while a last game win by Dan Harrington gave Cornard King’s Head B a 6-5 victory at the Snooker Club.
Special mention must go to Cornard Brook, who despite only winning one match all season never gave up trying in every game they played.
Finals night will be on Friday, October 5, at Sudbury Snooker Club starting at 7.30pm.
