Boys from St Margaret’s Preparatory School in Gosfield placed first the Independent Schools Association’s eastern region athletics competition.

Held at Garon Park, Southend, on Friday, June 7, 34 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented St Margaret’s with the boys seeing off 18 other independent schools from the eastern region to take top spot, while the girls’ team were second.

Mr Clark, head of PE at St Margaret’s, said: “The children who represented St Margaret’s did both themselves and the school exceptionally proud.

“The children have been working hard this term on developing their track and field events.

“Over the last few years we have performed well at Garon Park, but with many talented athletes moving on to senior schools, it was going to be a hard act to follow.

“But follow they did, and indeed they took us to a new level.”

A team of 11 were due to represent St Margaret’s at the Independent Schools Association National Athletics Competition on Monday, running as part of the eastern region team.

Held at the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham, the event will see the largest team the school has ever entered into such an event.
