Golfers at Newton Green have competed for a miniature throne — and help raise nearly £300 for victims of the Philippines hurricane disaster.
Two teams of 36 took part in the annual challenge match between the ladies’ and seniors’ section of the club.
The seniors hosted the competition this year, with section captain Bill Havers making a decision to divert the proceeds of a raffle to victims of the hurricane.
A decision to make the men play off the white competition tees, instead of the easier yellow tees, meant they had a tough task retaining the trophy, which has the lid open when in the possession of the men, but down when held by the women.
However, for the next 12 months the seat will be up, with the men winning 9-8 and one match being halved.
