Billy Bird has taken another significant step towards getting his chance at a British Masters title after coming his toughest bout in determined fashion.
The 21-year-old former Sudbury Boxing Club member maintained his faultless professional record on Friday evening to claim a seventh consecutive victory by overcoming the experienced Kieran Gray at Norwich’s Epic Studios.
And with a points defeat over the ‘Smasher’ under his belt, ‘Billy Boy’ knows he has taken an important step in the direction towards challenging for a light middleweight belt of his own.
“I was delighted, he was a very tough opponent but it was vital just to get through,” he said. “The only shame is that it wasn’t a stoppage.
“The most important thing though is that it puts another step up the ladder and hopefully will allow me to face up against a better standard of fighter.
“My next move will be to fight in six round contests and hopefully by the end of the year I will be in line for a title shot.
“As soon as the opportunity arises I will grab it.
“My professional journey has been amazing so far and I just don’t want it stop.
“I can’t wait for the bigger fights now and I will look at every bout on offer.”
