Big turnout for Halstead’s memorial meeting

More than 100 riders took part in some fast and furious racing at Wakes Colne in Halstead Motorcycle Club’s Richard Fitch Trophy meeting.

The Allcomers Group A overall winner was South African rider Brad Woodroofe, with third place going to Halstead’s expert rider Jason Morland and the host club’s Brendon Mayers was sixth overall.

In Allcomers Group B overall placing, a good set of results gave Halstead’s Steve Cadd fourth.

In the Allcomers Group C, no Halstead club rider placed in the top 10 overall.

In the two strokes machines, three third-placed finishes gave Halstead’s Bradley Howlett third overall.

In the main race of the day, the Richard Fitch Trophy, Aaron Pipon took the victory with home rider Morland coming third. Mayers had to drop out of the race after three laps.

Richard’s parents Gill and Chris Fitch attended the meeting to present trophies to various winners, having sponsored the meeting.

With his riding number having been 11, there was an award to 11th-place finisher Steve Atkins.

n At the meeting at Norwich Viking MCC circuit at Lyng, there was a second place overall for Jason Morland in Allcomers Group A.

In the Super final there was a tremendous win for Morland with Phil Burton fifth overall.

In Allcomers Group B, expert rider John Hinz took the overall top place, which included two race wins plus a second-place finish.

Nicky West took sixth place overall in Allcomers Group C with Jon Russell 19th.

n There were five Halstead club riders in the expert category of the Diss MCC-hosted GH MC’s GB Finch Midweek MX round two at Wattisfield last Wednesday.

Chris Bastick took the win in Allcomers Heat Three with Phil Burton second.

In heat four, Jason Morland finished fourth, with Mark Sharman in sixth and Mayers eighth.

All those riders progressed through to the second semi-final with the best-placed Halstead rider Bastick in second.

In the grand final, Morland took sixth place with Bastick ninth, Burton 15th, Mayers 17th and Sharman 18th.

There will now be a gap before Halstead’s final meeting of the 2014 season at Wakes Colne, the Maxxis British Sidecar-cross Championship meeting on Sunday, September 7.
