Midtable pairs title is shared
The midtable pairs battled it out in the latest meeting of Sudbury’s Fellowship Snooker League, looking to secure top spot in the Mediocre Mayhem play- offs.
Pete Davy and John Kemp, playing for the Bungling Baptists in the team event, started at the top of the table, but almost threw it away in their second game, fouling on the black to snatch a late defeat against the New Life Saints’ Stuart Ayling, who was playing with stand-in partner Tony West.
But an early win against Paul Billimore and Chris Moss still saw the Bungling pair top the table.
They were joined by Andy and Matt Rippingale, who won both their matches convincingly to share the title.
Nathan Jackson and Frank Marsden, and Paul Billimore and Chris Moss shared third place.
The Rippingale’s success also helped cement the Pioneer Pilgrims in the top spot of the team event, stretching their lead to 17 points, on 157.
With only one evening’s play left of this season’s fixtures, it will be a tough task to catch them.
Below them it is all to play for.
The Baptist players amassed enough points on the evening to lift them into second place, but they are only one point clear of the Pastor’s Pirates in third.
Reigning champions New Life Dragons slipped to fourth spot, trailing by six points.
Finally, in the individual rankings Paul Tamsett moves into second after a solid night playing with stand-in partner Alex Windsor.
Winning both his matches, he shares second spot with Pete Keogh, with both on 28 points, just four behind Steve Pugh at the top.
