Long Melford step up for silver service

Long Melford Working Men’s Club and Clare Bell A received their league and cup trophies on Tuesday as the Border Invitation Cribbage League celebrated another highly-competitive season at Glemsford Social Club.

Some 56 players were represent across 14 tables for the annual Crib Drive preceding the presentations, with Glemsford Cock pairing Carol Pleasance and Wendy Angelopolos winning a £20 cash prize on the night.

The runners-up, handed a £10 note for their troubles, were John Sharp and David Bracher.

The Free Press’ Russell Claydon was on hand to present the trophies for the following prizes: League winners: Long Melford Working Men’s Club; league runners-up: Stoke-by-Clare Lion; Knockout Cup: Clare Bell; Knockout Cup runners-up: Glemsford Black Lion B; Singles Cup: R Wheatley (Barndiston Arms); Singles Cup runner-up: L Moores (Melford WMC); Doubles Cup: P Saunders and T Macdonald (Cavendish Bull).
