London 2012: Being part of the Olympics

IN OUR feature on London 2012 Games Makers last week, we asked others involved in the Olympics and Paralympics to get in touch with group sports editor Derek Bish and here are two who did...

I’m a Games Maker!

I submitted my application the day London was announced as the hosts of the 2012 Games and I can’t believe that many years, interviews and training days later it all starts this week.

I am an event services volunteer in the basketball arena. I’ll be there as the arena opens on Saturday and I’ll be there as it closes with the handball gold medal game just before the closing ceremony.

I’m working on 12 days and also have tickets to see athletics including the first round of the men’s 100m, Oscar Pistorius in the 400m and Jessica Ennis during her heptathlon journey.

The greatest show on earth comes to Britain and I’ll be at the heart of it.

It’s costing me a lot of time and money, but I could not be more proud or excited to be a Games Maker.

Emma Bailey (Newmarket)

I am an event services team leader for the Olympic Games doing two weeks at Greenwich Park.

I am very much looking forward to this as it is the opportunity of a lifetime.

I have worked in racing for many years and I am now head person for Marco Botti.

My love and knowledge of horses will put me in good stead for the equestrian events at Greenwich Park.

I am very much looking forward to seeing London and meeting lots of people.
