Long Melford 0

Hadleigh United 0

Long Melford and Hadleigh United played out a 0-0 draw on Friday night in a game which had very little in the way of quality and the scoreline reflected a fair outcome.

In the opening minutes Hadleigh came close to a breakthrough when Daniel Thrower flashed a cross over the Melford box, but no-one was able to get a finishing touch on the ball.

The Villagers responded after 15 minutes when a good cross from Jamie Griffiths found Scott Yearling, whose volley on the turn went just inches past the post.

Just before half-time Griffiths raised the Melford supporters from their slumbers when his well-struck shot just shaved the Hadleigh goal post.

United almost grabbed a winner at the end when Thrower’s strike went just wide, before the final whistle brought the goalless clash at Stoneylands to an end.

Melford (seventh) face a tricky test to sixth place Kirkley and Pakefield this weekend, while Hadleigh (11th) entertain Ipswich Wanderers (both Saturday, 3pm).

n Cornard United have been drawn against lower league Haughley United in the semi-finals of this season’s Suffolk FA Senior Cup sponsored by CNet Training.

The Ards will take on the Touchline Suffolk and Ipswich League side at Haverhill Rovers FC on Saturday, April 2 (3pm).

Cornard were beaten 3-1 by Debenham LC on their return to league action at the weekend, with Stowmarket Town the visitors to Blackhouse Lane this Saturday (3pm).
