Diss shrugged off their 4-1 defeat at Halstead on Saturday to bounce back with a victory on Tuesday, scoring all their goals in the dying minutes.

Saturday’s defeat was a closer contest than the scoreline suggested.

The same was true of Tuesday’s keenly contested encounter, but this time it was the Tangerines who took their chances.

This game was originally played as the opening match of the season, which Diss won 2-0. But it had to be replayed as the Tangerines fielded an ineligible player in the original fixture

The first half was an even contest with both sides having a couple of good chances.

Dereham keeper Will Viner had to react quickly to parry a shot from Jason Armes, and went full length to deny Joe Manning.

The Tangerines were denied a penalty when Jamie George was pushed in the back by Glover, and the half ended goalless.

The Tangerines gradually ramped up the pressure in the second half, but the breakthrough did not come until the 81st minute.

Danny Self cut the ball back and put a low cross into the six yard box where Sam Page slid in to divert the ball into the bottom corner.

Ben Fowkes came on as a substitute in the 89th minute and had an instant impact, scoring within two minutes.

Just seconds before thefinal whistle the ball fell to Chris Gibbons in the penalty area, and his powerful drive was too fierce for Viner to keep out.

Diss Town: Izod, Hood, Gilding, Downes, Barrett, Greenslade, Armes, Manning, Self, Page, George. Subs: Fowkes, Olpin, Gibbons. Not used: Brown, Powley.

Attendance: 77.

n At Halstead, with Diss trailing 2-1, Jamie George hit the post in the 67th minute, only for the home side to score from the spot two minutes later.

Diss took the lead in the 17th minute when Sam Page headed home a free kick from Danny Self.

But Halstead scored through Cripps in the 37th and 43rd minute to lead 2-1 at the interval.

Will Izod brought down O’Hare, Warren scoring from the spot. Self went close before Brown got the fourth in the last minute.

n The Tangerines are away at Needham Market Reserves tomorrow (3pm).
