Ladies qualify for Nationals

Sudbury Bowls Club’s Ladies have qualified for next month’s Bowls England National Triples competition in Leamington.

Jacqui Edgar, Jane Watson and Ann Baker came from 9-2 down to beat Holywells 23-16 in the County Ladies Triples competition, which as a result sees them set to play against Felixstowe in the final on July 18.

By virtue of reaching the semi-finals, the ladies have automatically qualified for the National Triples, which starts on August 10.

Elsewhere, Sudbury’s Men’s Fours team saw off Lowestoft Rail 40-30 to reach the quarter-finals of the County Norton Cup.

Graham Smith, Colin Tuxworth, Rod Sharp and Brian Smith teamed up to win the home leg 22-12, while Terry Parker, Terry Swift, Dave Parker and Aaron Phillips played out an 18-18 draw in the away tie. Sudbury will play Norbridge in the last eight this Sunday.
