Ipswich Town fan Russell Claydon says: ‘Joniesta’s return just the lift we needed for the run-in’

The belief that this could still be our time swelled around Suffolk as much, if not more, last Thursday than a dramatic last-gasp winner at Watford.

Jonny Williams’ return on loan was just as unexpected as three points at the then-league leaders, but just as sweet.

‘Joniesta’ hasn’t played a senior game for five months since that industrial challenge when we last played the Hornets.

But even if he will not figure in all seven remaining games, psychologically, his return is massive.

I wrote at the start of his last loan spell he could be the last piece in the jigsaw.

From what I hear, he’s loved in the dressing room every bit as much as by us, and he should slot right back in.

The downside is the continuation of his emergency loan, which the club should be applauded for arranging after providing a dossier to the Football League pleading for it, as he won’t be available for a play-off final.

But can we write off the top two if we beat league leaders Bournemouth at Portman Road on Friday (5.15pm) to go just three points behind them? Yes, I thought we had by now, but it’s a funny ol’ game.

The loan signing who came over from Crystal Palace with Williams, left-back Zeki Fryers, also has a big role to play with Tyrone Mings set to serve a two-game suspension, also covering Monday’s trip to Huddersfield (3pm) and Parr (hamstring)struggling.

And it wasn’t quite a canine discovery on a par with Pickles turning up with the lost Jules Rimet Trophy, but maybe the Town fans who have reunited a previously distraught Kevin Bru with his pooch during the international break have also played their part in sorting us out for the run-in...
