Ipswich Town fan Russell Claydon says ‘don’t write Mick’s boys off just yet’

While it seemed the vast majority were hailing a point against Bournemouth, I hate to say I told you so...

How different it looks after a 2-1 defeat at an out-of-form Huddersfield on Monday, that leaves us not eyeing the top two, but at the back of a queue of four vying for two play-off spots.

I was happy to admit after Friday’s game with the then league leaders that Eddie Howe’s side deserved to come away with something for all their pressure, but 10 minutes was all we were away from a different story.

It was not only a very un-Bournemouth-like equaliser from a top end signing in Kenwyne Jones, but it was a very un-Ipswich-like goal to concede.

Of course, as well as we started the game, were it not for Bartosz Bialkowski’s agility we would have been looking at a defeat. The Pole was the only one to emerge with real credit from both games, following a dismal display in Yorkshire on Monday Mick McCarthy described as the worst he has presided over, including that 6-0 defeat at Leicester.

You wouldn’t have known we were the side with the extra day’s rest.

Should Sears have started? Yes, but it leaves us with five games, of which I think we need to win at least three, including Wolves.

It is a big ask, but relegated Blackpool at Portman Road Saturday (3pm), followed by another with little but pride to play for at Cardiff City on Tuesday (7.45pm), gives us an ideal chance to quickly reverse some alarming form. Some are suggesting it shows we’ve run our race, but don’t write us off yet.
