Ipswich Town fan Russell Claydon says: Despite his miss Daryl’s not fall guy

Daryl Murphy could have forgiven a betting fraud team calling him in after that miss on Saturday.

How the Championship’s top marksman did not roll that one into the net, I’ll never know.

But to suggest it might cost us a play-off place would be as miss-guided as that scuffed shot.

The Irishman’s goals ARE the reason why we are still within touching distance of the play-offs.

And that tells it’s own story.

Against Wigan, without our new main man, we failed to score, and when Murphy himself faltered in front of goal against Brentford, there was no-one else able to bail him out.

A 1-1 draw against the promotion-chasing Bees at home would have been an acceptable outcome, had we not lost five of our last 10.

As it is, you have to feel that nothing but a win in a trip to Teesdie in Saturday’s early kick-off at title-chasing Middlesbrough (with four teams including themselves tied on points at the top) will do now.

The good news is Teddy Bishop is back in a midfield which has been stalling, and he almost engineered us a winner Saturday.

But David McGoldrick is the one I feel we are really missing to knit the midfield to the frontline, and he is in with a shout of a return for the 12:15pm SKY kick-off.

We beat Boro 2-0 at home less than three months ago, showing it can be done.

n The club is having to defend a three per cent rise in season tickets for next season. If it is done on the quality of football, it is, sadly, a tough sell.
