Hinchcliffe ties opposition down
OVER-60s COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Leicestershire & Rutland 124 lost to Suffolk 174-8 by 50 runs
Splendid bowling by Sudbury’s Dave Hinchcliffe helped Suffolk Over-60s to a comfortable victory at Oakham.
Hinchcliffe‘s superb opening burst of seven overs saw him take a wicket at a cost of just three runs.
He ended the day conceding just six runs from his nine overs, five of which were maidens.
The home side won the toss and invited Suffolk to bat on what looked a bowler-friendly wicket.
But openers Stef Marks (Long Melford) and Gerry Artindale (Woolpit) shared a partnership of 41 before Marks was bowled for 21.
John Gallant (Kesgrave) and Artindale put on 67 for the second wicket before Artindale was dismissed for 64.
Wickets tumbled regularly as Suffolk tried to build a defendable total in their 45 overs, Gallant third out after scoring 40.
Leicestershire struggled from the start, and were 13-2 as Hinchcliffe and Alan Barnes (BT & Waldringfield) produced devastating opening spells.
Barnes, who conceded 10 runs in his opening spell, ended with one wicket for 22.
Leicestershire’s only real resistance came from opener George Fox, who was unbeaten on 74.
The victory sees Suffolk in second place in their group, having won three and lost three of their six matches. Herts are top.
