Mark McLean’s first game since being made permanent manager at Halstead Town ended in a 4-0 defeat away to Diss Town on Saturday.

These two sides came together a few weeks ago after sharing the spoils at The Milbank Stadium, when The Humbugs equalised deep into injury time.

That was a tight, competitive game, and there was no reason to believe going into this match that it would be any different, but Diss had other thoughts and ran out convincing winners.

Shaun Hunsdon opened the scoring for the hosts, finishing off the rebound from his penalty, which had been saved by Halstead goalkeeper Luke Banner.

On the hour mark the visitors conceded again as Charlie Webb fired across Banner and the ball ended up in the net off the far post.

Hunsdon grabbed his second of the game to make it 3-0, before substitute Mark Appleton completed the scoring for Diss.

Halstead host Debenham LC, managed by former boss Mark Benterman, this Saturday (3pm), before travelling to Team Bury on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

n Elsewhere, Cornard United hit the 40-point mark for the first time in eight years following their 1-0 win away at Downham Town on Saturday.

Jake Buckland came off the bench to net the winner for The Ards, who are now on 40 points after 34 games.

Cornard host Braintree Town Reserves (Saturday, 3pm), before visiting Coggeshall Town (Tuesday, 7.45pm).
